Two-day trip to Vu Linh Village

Day 1: Hanoi –Vu Linh Village (160km-/L/D)

Our car and tour guide will pick you up at your hotel at 8:00, then we head to Home-stay in Vu Linh Village. Escaping from the noisy Hanoi, a three-hour drive will lead you along the Red River, passing through Phu Tho Province to reach Vu Linh Village, home of Dao ethnic minority groups for many years. You will be welcomed by the friendly and hospitable host. Lunch will be served with local dishes.

After a short break at our Homestay in Village we start a cruise and discoveries of Thac Ba lake (45 min - on boat)
We stop in our friend house to drink a cup of tea and  walk to interact with one of the many Dao families of the region (15 min.) as well as to learn more about the lifestyle of Dao people.

Late afternoon, we’ll return to the dock and then transfer back to the Home-stay we dinner and overnight at one Dao family in village.

Day 2: Vu Linh – Hanoi (B/L/-)



The birds will wake you up early in the second morning of the short trip. Start your day with a delicious breakfast along with a tea cup and enjoy the fresh and peaceful air of the typical Vietnam countryside.

We will spend time walking around Village to learn about the medicinal plants and to talk to local Dao ethnic people
Enjoy the locals’ hospitality when you visit their rice-fields and traditional stilt-houses. Pick up few plants to cook and to prepare ethnic bath for relaxation at the lodge after your walk, you will recover and feel relaxing thanks to the secret remedy of Dao.

We will have lunch at locals’ stilt house; afterward, we will pick you up and transfer to Hanoi. The trip is expected to end 17:00 in your hotel.

- In the morning, after breakfast we take the boat trip around Thac Ba lake, to visit Thuy Tien cave (1of beautiful cave on limestone islands). 

Stop for lunch by one island.

- After lunch The boats arrive to a village we walk on and go up Cao Bien mountain to enjoy a beautiful walk and view of the lake, walk deep in the local countryside with second stop in another family house, farmers breeding strange kinds of animals…

We go down of the mountain and return Homestay by boats when the sundown.

Geography

Situated on the gateway to North-West Vietnam, Yen Bai Province borders Lao Cai, Ha Giang in the north, Son La Province in the west, Tuyen Quang in the east, and Phu Tho in the south.

Terrain includes mountain, hill and valley. The network of rivers is complex with many falls and waterfalls. Climate in lowland is different from highland. Annual average temperature is from 18ºC to 28ºC.

Tourism

Yen Bai's large forest ranges supply valuable pomu, lat hoa, cho chi wood. Van Yen cinnamon, Suoi Giang tea, Tu Le glutinous rice are special products.

The province owns well-known stone-pit in Luc Yen, too.

Yen Bai has artificial Thac Ba Lake, a scenic spot as well as a historical place. The lake consists of 1,331 hill-islands, varies vegetation cover and a diverse ecological setting.

In the middle of the lake stands the Mong Son Grotto, home of the Yen Bai Party Committee during the anti-American resistance.

 Coming to there, tourists are able to relax in the lake, climb the mountain and explore the forests.

Visitors are attracted to Dong Cuong and Dai Cai temples. Archaeologists have found many remains of the Son Vi culture in the Dong Cuong Temple area. Dai Cai Temple was built on a large area covered with many green trees and beautiful riverside roads.

ABOUT DZAO

Dao ethnic minority enriches national folk culture

The Dao ethnic minority group is one of 54 fraternal ethnic groups in Vietnam. With a population of nearly half a million, the Dao ethnic minorities live mostly in the northern provinces of Yen Bai, Tuyen Quang, Ha Giang, Cao Bang and Lang Son.

The Dao ethnic group has up to 9 local sub-groups with different costumes and diverse cultural features. Their costumes help distinguish different sub-groups and are closely linked to wedding ceremonies where many rituals are held to express the wish for a happy reproductive life. One common wedding present is a pair of chickens to signify that concept.

Prepare for field work

Meanwhile, maturity ritual is the most important event in the life of Dao male teenagers. At 13 or 14, they attend solemn events witnessed by sorcerers and locals. From then on, these boys are recognized by the community as mature responsible adults.

The Dao in different localities are known as Dao Do (Red Dao), Dao Quan Chet, Dao Lo Ngang, Dao Tien, Dao Quan Trang. Dao men wear long hair, which is coiled up at the back of their neck or on their head. Their clothes are normally dyed indigo. Women’s costumes are more diverse and colourful and are decorated with traditional motifs.

The Dao population has a rich folk culture and history, especially traditional medicine. They don’t have a script of their own but speak a language of the Mong-Dao linguistic group.

Dao people live in houses, either built on stilts on the ground, or adopted from both styles. They subsist on terraced rice fields and also adopt fairly advanced methods of wet rice cultivation. They have switched from their former nomadic way of life, to that of sedentary farming.

The Dao people now live in harmony with other ethnic groups in northern Vietnam. Today they enjoy a better life thanks to the Government’s constant efforts to improve infrastructure construction, which narrow the gap between the Dao population and the rest of the country.

Walking on one of the islands and go up a hill to enjoy a beautiful walk and view of the lake. Visiting Thuy Tien Cave. (3 hour ). Back to Boi Mui homestay by boat and foot

Situated 180km from Hanoi, Thac Ba Lake is one of three vietnam’s largest artificial lakes and famoust for the first hydro power plant. Thac Ba Lake is known as an actractive eco-tourism site

Thac Ba Lake was created in 1970 by the construction of a dam on the Chay River. Thac Ba reservoir covers a total area of 23.400 ha, of which 19.05 ha is water area and the remaining 4.35ha of islets on the Reservoir. The length of the Reservoir is 80km, maximum width is 10km, the average depth is 15 - 25m and maximum depth is 42m.

Tourists can go to visit Thuy Tien cave, Xuan Long cave, Cao Bien and Chang Re mountain, Trinh Nam island ... Coming to Thac Ba, tourists can also discover the natural beauty of primitive forest and thousands of islands, rocky mountains.Thac Ba Lake is not only a beautiful landscape, but it is also a national vestige. In 1285, the Thu Vat Battle took place under the command of Tran Nhat Duat against Mongolian invaders.

During the resistance war agaist the American, Thuy Tien cave is the revolutionary base of Yem Bai provincial committee. Thac Ba is recognised a place of historical and cultural interest by the government.
There are 12 ethnic minority groups such as Dao, Tay, Nung, Cao Lan, Phu La.surrounding Thac Ba reservoir. These ethnic minority groups feature their own special and colourful traditional festivals. Coming to Thac Ba lake, tourists will have chance to enjoy speciality fish dishes, such as ven (bream), lang (hemibagrus), qua (snake-head), bong tuong (goby) and thieu bac (culteralburnus). Visitors can also sample Dai Minh famous sweet mandarins and pommelos.
